Martin Welzel studied with Daniel Roth and Wolfgang Rübsam at the University of Music in Saarbrücken, Germany, where he earned
degrees in sacred music and organ performance, including an Artist Diploma with highest honors. He holds a DMA degree in organ
performance from the University of Washington where he studied with Dr. Carole Terry and wrote a dissertation on Jeanne Demessieux.
In addition, he was the recipient of a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship.
Dr. Welzel has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe as soloist, accompanist and member of ensembles. He
has made numerous broadcast recordings and has also been featured on American Public Media’s Pipedreams. For Naxos International
he has recorded several CDs featuring organ works of Max Reger. Dr. Welzel, along with his wife, Alexandra Kertz-Welzel, perform
together as the Emerald City Duo, exploring the repertoire of the 19th and 20th century for organ and piano.
